Position Summary
Lava Island is seeking a Senior Creative Director (SCD) to define, shape, and lead the brands creative vision across all guest, employee, and partner touchpoints. This is a foundational leadership role that combines strategic direction with hands-on execution, ensuring Lava Island stands out as a visually distinctive, engaging, and cohesive brand experience.
The SCD will serve as the organizations top creative and marketing leader, building the bridge between brand strategy, guest experience, and business goals. Initially operating as both a creator and director, the SCD will oversee design, content, and media execution while establishing scalable systems, workflows, and a creative culture. Over time, this role will evolve into building and mentoring a high-performing creative and marketing team.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Strategy & Direction
- Translate Lava Islands brand strategy into compelling creative campaigns, assets, and guest experiences.
- Establish and enforce brand standards, style guides, and creative principles to ensure consistency across all platforms.
- Direct the development of campaign concepts, brand storytelling, and multimedia content that align with sales, guest engagement, and operational objectives.
- Provide creative leadership to ensure all touchpointsdigital, social, video, print, in-park, and employee-facingreflect the Lava Island brand.
Design & Asset Production
Design and produce a wide range of digital, print, video, social, and in-park assets, balancing speed and quality.Oversee website design, UX improvements, and content strategy, ensuring functionality and brand alignment.Lead the creation of internal-facing materials (recruitment campaigns, training guides, employee engagement resources).Build and maintain a centralized, scalable asset library for efficient reuse and consistency across locations.Brand & Marketing Integration
Partner with senior leadership to align creative execution with marketing, guest conversion, and revenue goals.Support paid media campaigns, email marketing, promotions, and partnerships, ensuring a unified brand voice and measurable impact.Monitor performance data, ROI, and analytics to refine creative approaches and maximize campaign effectiveness.Collaborate with operations, guest experience, and HR to integrate creative into guest touchpoints and employee culture.Leadership & Department Growth
Act as the leader of Lava Islands creative / marketing department, defining structure, workflows, and long-term vision.Mentor and develop hybrid creative and marketing talent, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.Define and scope future department roles (design, video, social, influencer, marketing management).Establish processes for scaling creative operations as Lava Island grows regionally and nationally.Qualifications
Required
7+ years of progressive experience in creative direction, design, or brand leadership (4+ years in a senior or lead role).Demonstrated success building and leading creative campaigns across digital, social, video, and print channels.Strong portfolio showcasing design excellence, brand storytelling, and measurable business impact.Proven ability to balance hands-on creative execution with strategic oversight and team leadership.Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere), video production / editing tools, and emerging design platforms.Experience establishing creative or marketing teams / departments from the ground up.Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders.Preferred
Knowledge of marketing analytics, performance tracking, and creative optimization.Comfortable in high-growth, entrepreneurial environments, with the ability to adapt quickly and set structure amidst change.Success Metrics
