Rising healthcare costs are prompting employers to consider new strategies that incentivize value and quality, while also improving affordability and closing health disparities.
The National Director, Employers (NDE) advocate for the integration of pharmaceuticals into employers' strategies and bringing market intelligence internally to Pfizer to advance go-to-market strategies for this evolving market. The National Director Employers will have a primary focus on large self-funded employers and organizations that influence the self-funded employers that intersect with our broader U.S. payer system. This role will have specific responsibility for select brands across internal medicines, vaccines, oncology and specialty. This position will report to a Sr. Director Team Leader.
National Director, Employers are responsible for driving strategic initiatives across demand generation, market shaping, and innovative B2B ecosystem relationships to improve access to care, achieve purchasing efficiencies and advance patient outcomes. This role will focus on employer engagement, benefit design, and strategic partnerships to support key Pfizer brands and therapeutic areas. Major responsibilities include :
- Directly works with employers to increase coverage / reimbursement, improve access, and enables the capture of increasing sales volume.
- Develops, executes, and coordinates with assigned brand teams to ensure our resources and efforts are aligned to the yearly brand team operational plan and efforts.
- Improves employer customer equity, develops advocates and influences the market from those national and regional customers demonstrating the value of pharma, our disease states, products, and services.
- Supports, coordinates, and informs the outreach of other Pfizer colleagues across various geographic areas. Ensures an influential voice and direction in the employer space is heard in Pfizer to allow a clear understanding of what challenges and opportunities exist in the market.
- Directly works with specific non-employers, employer influencers (EBCs, Brokers, Coalitions, Unions, Key Employer KOLs, etc.)
- Responsible for developing new employer market advocates, enhancing existing advocates, KOLs and speakers' messages, developing new speakers and use of existing speakers in four main areas : 1) specific relevant disease states, 2) general value of pharmaceuticals / pharma, 3) quality and outcomes-based healthcare and 4) advocates for a private, employer-based healthcare system and current legislative areas of high impact and interest.
- Represents Pfizer in external multistakeholder engagements to shape health and wellness strategies, market position and policies.
- Improves customer relationships with employer customers and demonstrates the value of our products and services.
- Leads B2B initiatives within the employer channel ecosystem to eliminate duplicative intermediary services and improve purchasing efficiency.
- Drives shared value realization through innovative delivery models.
- Works in close collaboration with the Public Affairs and Policy Team to ensure we are aligned and actively engaged in appropriate identified areas of mutual interest.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues from different functions such as Trade, Medical, Contracting and National Accounts at Pfizer to present a coordinated and unified approach to customers.
Basic qualifications :
Bachelor degree required8+ years' experience working with pharmaceutical or healthcare industry customers and customer's senior leadership in an account management role; direct employer customer experience preferred and prioritized for candidate selectionDeep knowledge of employer benefit design, healthcare industry, funding of healthcare and the interactions between healthcare stakeholdersDemonstrated customer interaction / influence skillsAbility to handle multiple tasks effectivelyAbility to manage customers, develop strategies and implement tacticsProven leadership and teamwork skills. Has the ability to work in matrix teams and execute flawlesslyExcellent consultative selling, facilitation, problem-solving and project management skillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to interact with Pfizer senior leaders and work across functional groups to build consensus and actionAdvanced degree and / or training preferredGeneral understanding of policy related topics which impact the healthcare market and employer space.Experience working with employers on Health and Well-being and Benefit Design with a PBM or EBC is preferred.Position requires considerable travel (35%) within 48 contiguous US States
