Minimum Requirements :

NYS Special Education Certification

Desired Qualifications :

Elementary or Elementary and Secondary certification desirable

Ability to establish positive rapport with students

Position Summary / Responsibilities :

The Special Education Teacher on Special Assignment - alternative placement will work to coordinate instruction to elementary and / or secondary students from buildings across the District on a short-term basis, provide case management for students, and professional learning. Continue to provide support needed for special education students who require an alternative education either during suspension, awaiting placement, or pursuing a GED.

Provide individual instruction to students deemed unable to participate in the regular school day.

Work in collaboration with students, families and school staff to efficiently and effectively deliver academic services.

Administer both district and state tests and exams, grade and score work, complete report card / progress reports. Administer state and district wide assessments.

Grade and score student work, including completion and submission of report cards and progress reports

Attend Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings, and participate in the development of Individual Education Program (IEP) development.

Keep and maintain accurate records around student achievement and submit written summaries of progress upon request.

Support and problem solve unique student needs during testing / evaluation process

Support with the purchase an online program for small handful of GED students

May be required to mentor new hires across the district as needed with supervisor approval

May be required to cover at various buildings across the district as needed with supervisor approval

Other duties as assigned by Pupil Personnel Services Department
