Job description

At Sierra Nevada Corporation, you will work in multidisciplinary teams to bring concept of operations to fruition and further our customers' mission objectives. As a manufacturing engineer in our Hagerstown, MD location, you will play a critical role in our special mission aircraft efforts and help lead the way in developing next-generation Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms.

You will research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy, and improve cutting-edge products and services that range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems to highly integrated aircraft. Specifically, you will be instrumental in the development and enhancement of our special mission aircraft, ensuring they meet the unique needs and stringent requirements of our clients.

Your responsibilities will include consulting with program management, design engineers, quality assurance, and production teams to develop the most efficient and cost-effective means of producing our products at the highest quality possible. You will review engineering designs for producibility from design conception through implementation. This includes the development of work instructions, and production processes and procedures.

Additionally, you will apply manufacturing technologies and industry best practices during the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring that our special mission aircraft are built to the highest standards and performance criteria.

The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command / control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains - air, land, sea, space and cyber.

Qualifications You Must Have :

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in related discipline
  • Typically 2 or more years of relevant experience
  • Higher education may substitute for relevant experience
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Exposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems
  • Experience with work instruction / traveler development
  • The Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Secret Security Clearance

Qualifications We Prefer :

  • Experience with design and develop tooling, dies, jigs, fixtures, and other equipment for manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity in applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Knowledge industry standard design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processes
  • Participation in dispositions of Non-Conformance generation through a Material Review Board (MRB)
  • Experience with new product introduction and transition to production
  • Experience interacting with shop floor personal from project conception through implementation

    Estimated Starting Salary Range : $74,581.13 - $102,549.04. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors, such as candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education / training / certifications. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE :

    This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.
