We are seeking a Technical Writer II who loves turning complex engineering data into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working hands-on with engineering teams, digging into technical systems, and creating content that directly supports product performance, maintenance, and customer success. Create and update technical documentation that supports product operation, repair, maintenance, and marketing Ensure all documents meet company standards, customer requirements, government specifications, and clear language guidelines Use modern publishing tools to develop product descriptions, functional descriptions, operating procedures, troubleshooting steps, repair instructions, illustrated parts breakdowns, and supporting reports Collaborate closely with engineering teams to fully understand systems and equipment before writing Review engineering drawings and technical data and translate them into clear, accurate documentation Support validation of written procedures when needed Evaluate illustrations, graphics, and schematics and determine the best way to integrate them into documentation Request updates or creation of new visual content to improve clarity Provide input on project timelines, estimates, documentation format, and structure Stay up to date on industry tools, trends, and best practices Maintain a safe work environment and support company safety objectives Skills Required Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations Ability to translate highly technical engineering information into clear, understandable content Working knowledge of publishing tools and XML authoring platforms such as Arbortext Epic Editor or Oxygen Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Experience using Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar markup tools Technical writing experience in mechanical, electrical, or operator documentation, ideally within the defense industry Experience with validation, verification, or on-vehicle review is a plus Content Management System experience is a plus Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple locations Understanding of interactive electronic technical manual development and markup languages Familiarity with military and commercial documentation standards Experience Required Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus two additional years of technical writing experience Experience Preferred Defense industry experience Automotive industry experience Benefits : Health Insurance 401k Pay Range : $40.00 - $43.00 per hour (Depending on experience and qualifications) By applying for this job, you agree to receive calls, AI-generated calls, text messages, or emails from HEPCO, Inc and its affiliates, and contracted partners.
