Job Summary
This position requires a Registered Nurse with a current Maine or Compact RN license to provide age-appropriate nursing care, assessments, medication administration, documentation, and patient education in accordance with hospital standards and the Maine Nursing Practice Act. The RN will participate in onboarding on Day 1 through Human Resources and will be responsible for maintaining a safe care environment, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and contributing to emergency management response when required.
Responsibilities
Performs initial and ongoing age-appropriate nursing assessments
Completes discharge assessments and identifies patient discharge needs
Identifies priorities for nursing care and develops / implements patient-specific plans
Executes nursing interventions to achieve patient goals based on provider orders
Communicates patient status and updates with the healthcare team
Documents patient care following hospital policy and regulatory standards
Initiates supplemental nursing notes when appropriate
Assists with patient charges
Maintains patient and staff safety by ensuring a clean and secure environment
Ensures all equipment and supplies are in safe working condition
Reports concerns regarding safety or legality to the nursing manager
Demonstrates knowledge of internal / external disaster procedures
Demonstrates strong drug administration knowledge and verifies medications using the "five rights"
Evaluates patient medication responses and adjusts care accordingly
Provides patient and family education as needed
Completes discharge plans and verifies patient / family understanding
Performs patient follow-up calls
Participates in MDT meetings and bedside rounds with hospitalists and case managers
Supports hospital image and staff through professional conduct
Participates in hospital-wide and department-specific quality improvement initiatives
Supports emergency / disaster preparedness planning and drills
Participates in real emergency response efforts within professional capability
