Top Skills' Details

1) Completion of a technical training (electrical / mechanical / electronics / HVAC) with at least 3 years of professional work exp. (training and knowledge of some of the systems that are in environment is imperative. They don't expect that candidates will know everything but to have a good understanding of HVAC systems and power systems is necessary.)

2)Knowledge of Mechanical, Power, or HVAC Systems (this falls back to the 1st top 3 skill requirement. On top of the training, individuals need to have good understanding if not exp working with these systems. They will train them up but the foundation knowledge is key since these systems could knock out service for customers)

3) Experience with low voltage cabling- 480V, 24V Control systems (these systems also have low voltage cabling tied into them for the IP based aspects. Knowledge and understanding is key and they will train up the rest.)

Job Description

OVERVIEW :

Communications is a datacenter collocation company that is headquartered in Las Vegas. They have grown nationally over the past 5 years and now have locations in Reno, Michigan, and Atlanta. They provide space and technology services to their customer base such as internet connectivity.

PROJECT :

The purpose of this position is to support the installation and maintenance of all electrical, electronic, mechanical, and HVAC critical infrastructure. The technician will provide support to all SUPERNAP facility operations teams when assigned. This team member will work to find creative ways to keep operational costs to a minimum and will work outside of the box with team members to improve efficiency.

ROLE :

The main skill in this position is installation, maintenance and repair of the critical systems. This person will have to provide requested reporting and documentation. Tech will also need to respond to customer requests, power, cooling, and facility audits. Required to investigate any power, communication or cooling anomalies. Also required to investigate out of ordinary sight, smells, and sounds.

  • Attend assigned meetings and training
  • Assist in ensuring customer compliance with AUP
  • Provide technical escort when needed

The data center is a 24 hour / 7 day operation. This position requires the ability to work effectively under pressure and multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously. This person may be required to work extended hours during peak work periods and must be able to read and understand various color codes on components, wiring, and equipment.

They have SLA's that they commit to for each of their clients that guarantee a very high percentage of up-time. If they fall short of this then there will be financial penalties that cut into the profits. Sense of urgency has to be there.
