Description
Under general supervision of the Fleet Services Supervisor the Fleet Equipment Technician assists in repairs and maintenance on heavy trucks heavy and small equipment and vehicles used in support of City operations to include automobiles trucks sweepers graders tractors and other power-driven and mechanical equipment; ensuring that all vehicles meet State safety inspection standards.
The entry-level Fleet Equipment Technician I classification in the Automotive Technician series follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision with work frequently reviewed by a superior. This classification is distinguished from the Automotive Technician II and III in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skills.
Under basic supervision the Automotive Technician II and III is responsible for the repair servicing preventive maintenance and inspection of gasoline and diesel-powered automobiles heavy trucks and equipment.
The journey-levels Fleet Equipment Technicians I and II classifications in the Automotive Technician series follow diversified procedures and implements processes to accomplish end results within guidelines performing all duties of the Fleet Technician I in addition to the following duties requiring limited supervision.

Qualifications
Fleet Equipment Technician
Required :
High School Diploma or G.E.D. one (1) year technical training in a field related to area of assignment or one (1) year automotive / equipment repair experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. State Inspector Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire date. Possess Class C Drivers license or State of Texas Class B CDL (CDL must be obtained within one (1) year of hire date). Basic understanding of mechanical and automotive principles. Ability to work after hours and weekends.
Preferred :
Completion of automotive trade school. ASE or EVT Certification in the automotive or truck field. Two (2) years automotive / equipment repair experience.
Fleet Equipment Technician II
Required :
High School Diploma or G.E.D. two (2) years technical training in a field related to area of assignment or two (2) years automotive / equipment repair experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possess Class B CDL Drivers License and maintain. Possess two (2) ASE or EVT Certifications in the automotive or truck field. State Inspector Certification.
Fleet Equipment Technician III
Required :
High School Diploma or G.E.D. three (3) years technical training in a field related to area of assignment or three (3 years automotive / equipment repair experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possess Class A CDL Drivers License and maintain. Possess four (4) ASE or EVT Certifications in the automotive or truck field. State Inspector Certification.
