Registered Nurse, Oncology

Summary :

The Oncology Practice Nurse provides specialized nursing support for the Bon Secours Medical Group (BSMG) Hematology / Oncology clinic. This position is integral to the delivery of comprehensive, high-quality outpatient oncology care. The nurse supports physicians and advanced practice providers by coordinating patient care, providing symptom management, facilitating phone triage, educating patients on their diagnosis and treatment, and assisting with prior authorizations and treatment planning. This role ensures continuity of care and enhances the overall patient experience throughout the cancer journey.

Responsibilities :

• Provide nursing support to physicians and advanced practice providers in the outpatient hematology / oncology clinic.
• Perform patient triage, including telephone and in-person assessments, and escalate care appropriately.
• Assist with prior authorizations and coordination of diagnostic tests, imaging, and therapies.
• Support management of treatment-related side effects and provide patient / family education regarding symptom monitoring and supportive care measures.
• Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure timely communication of test results, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
• Serve as a point of contact for patients and caregivers to address questions, coordinate referrals, and facilitate access to supportive services.
• Document patient interactions, assessments, and care coordination activities in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in quality initiatives, safety monitoring, and process improvement efforts within the clinic.
• Maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing practices, supportive care standards, and institutional policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements :

Experience : 2-3 years of nursing experience required; prior oncology nursing experience strongly preferred.

Education : Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licenses / Certifications : Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred. Current BLS certification required.

Other : Strong assessment, triage, and critical-thinking skills. Excellent communication and patient education abilities. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
