SUMMARY OF POSITION
The County of Monterey Health Department is seeking a candidate with proven executive leadership, management, and fiscal experience within a large health services environment to fill a vacancy for the position of Assistant Director of Health Services . The Assistant Director has direct responsibility for the management of the Department's Administration Bureau and internal administrative operations including finance / budget, facilities, contracts, information technology, privacy, compliance. The Assistant Director serves as the Department's Compliance Officer and is responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal Health Care program requirements in the areas of regulation, fiscal, operations, and policy. The Health Department is a Public Health Accredited organization, and the Assistant Director will have direct responsibility over the accreditation process including performance management, quality improvement, data system and governance, strategic planning, and organizational development. In addition, the Assistant Director must have sufficient knowledge and experience in other key programmatic and service areas delivered through local health departments.
This position also coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director; and acts as the Director in their absence. This is an "at will" classification.

Education :
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public administration, business, accounting, finance, economics, health, social science, or a related field. A master's degree in public health; business administration; health administration or a related field is highly desirable.
Experience :
Five (5) years of progressively responsible management experience that included at least two years of senior level management experience over complex operations and / or programs, preferably in a health-related agency. Experience should have included fiscal planning and monitoring, budgeting, contract negotiations, project management, and supervision of management-level staff.
