I NEED A SERVICE ADVISOR

Hello, my name is Michael and I am in charge of running Reliable Auto Repair which is located in south San Jose. We are a family-owned small business with a loyal customer base, good reputation, and a desire to add one person to the front office as a service advisor. I’m aiming to be as straightforward as possible and keep things light, so at the very least this won’t bore you to death like all the other cookie cutter ads.

We’re looking for a service advisor who’s already managed a busy shop — around 300+ cars a month and around $200K+ in gross monthly sales. If you’ve done that before and you know how to keep it running smooth, you will fit in perfectly. This is a very fast paced shop and the exact opposite of most dealerships, corporate chains, or franchises. We are a very small tight knit crew and we hope that your attitude towards work is like ours. To put it extremely simply, I need someone that is a humble, normal human being who can consistently provide the same experience to every single customer 5 days a week and treats the shop like it belongs to them.

WHATS IN THE SHOP?

The garage consists of 4 bays, an alignment rack, an ADAS machine, tire mounting machine, and tire balancing machine.
There are 4 automotive technicians and one front office person (me).
Average car count is 80 cars a week.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ALL DAY?

Come in Monday thru Friday at 7 : 45 AM.

Have a 5-minute meeting with four automotive technicians about all the appointments coming in for the day on a whiteboard that was written up the previous day.

Prepare estimates, write up repair orders for customers, assign work to the technicians, order parts, organize parts, schedule returns, order shop supplies, sell repairs that the technicians find, answer the phone, call customers for pickups, and bill customers out.

By 5PM you make sure everyone is clocked out, help park the cars inside the garage, and go home.

CALL ME IF :

You hold a minimum of 185k gross monthly average over a year period.

You consistently write up a minimum of 280 cars a month.

You have an excellent memory.

You know what the terms gross profit, net profit, and effective labor rate mean.

You dress appropriately.

You are a good salesperson - I don’t want someone who can “sell anything to anyone”, I want someone who can properly explain what someone’s vehicle needs and then empower the customer to make the best-informed decision that they can. This business is a marathon and not a sprint.

You should have a basic understanding of how cars work. You don’t need to know every engineering detail, but you do need to be able to explain what it does in simple, plain language. The techs handle the technical side; your job is to clearly communicate what’s being recommended and why, so customers actually understand it.

You are able to switch focus between multiple tasks quickly – you will frequently have to put a customer on hold over the phone, to talk to a technician, while a parts delivery driver is waiting for you to write a check, while a customer comes in to pick up their car.

You have experience using shop software to prepare estimates and possess the tech literacy to send an email with a PDF attachment.

PAY

If you’re capable of consistently writing $3–4 million a year on your own, your paycheck will show it. Most interviewees I’ve talked with so far have landed somewhere between $65K and $130K a year — everything’s negotiable for the right person.

Probationary period is 3 months. We have full dental, vision, and health insurance coverage and matching 401k plans.
