Job Description

General Summary

• Vein Harvesting Experience Preferred, but not required

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Cardiothoracic surgeon, assists in the performance of surgical procedures in Cardiac surgery. During the intraoperative phase of heart surgery, the first assist practices in collaboration with and at the direction of the attending surgeon or his designee.

This position is hiring for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physican Assistant (PA) or RN First Assist

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

Performs tissue handling including making incisions, retracting, dissecting, tying, ligating, stapling, suturing and providing hemostasis. Performs chest closure, including chest wires when indicated. Routinely closes the leg and chest soft tissue layers. Assists in transporting the patient from the O.R. to the CTICU / PACU.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from a Physician Assistant Training Program approved by the Board of Physician Quality Assurance is required. Evidence of current certification as a Physician Assistant by the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance.

Certification or eligibility for certification by National Commission for Certifying Physician Assistants is required. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification is required.
