Job Summary

Job Title : Specialized Mental Health RN

Location : Miami VA Healthcare System (including 7 Community-Based Outpatient Clinics)

Period of Performance : 03 / 12 / 2025 - 03 / 11 / 2030

Shift Schedule : 12 Hour Nights 7pm - 8am

Position Description : The Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and cognitive impairments such as dementia. This position is located on a locked 28-bed unit that provides general inpatient psychiatric care, including specialized services for geriatric psychiatry. In this dynamic and high-paced environment, the Mental Health RN must balance clinical expertise with strong communication skills to provide patient-centered care while ensuring safety for patients, staff, and visitors.

Primary Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities :

Unit Description : The Inpatient Mental Health Unit is a locked unit comprised of 28 beds for general inpatient psychiatry treatment and geriatric psychiatry. The patients in this unit carry various psychiatric diagnoses including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and cognitive impairment such as dementia. Many patients may be under involuntary and / or court-ordered admissions.

Skills : RNs working on the Mental Health unit shall be responsible for patient assessments, BCMA medication administration, interdisciplinary team coordination, admissions, discharges, internal and external transfers, delegating to assistive personnel, electronic medical record documentation, patient transport, withdrawal monitoring and management, and emergency response procedures, applying de-escalation techniques and Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMBD) strategies to help people manage their emotions and behavior, providing evidence based, individual support, such as cognitive behavior therapy principles for depression and anxiety. Every 15-minute unit specific patient monitoring and rounding.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements :

BLS certification, three (3) years mental health experience, and ability to function in a high-paced, stressful environment. The personnel assigned by the Contractor to perform the services covered by this task order shall possess an unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the States, Territories, or Commonwealths of the United States or the District of Columbia.
