About the Opportunity :
Sterling Engineering is seeking a hands-on EH&S Manager to lead safety initiatives at a growing well-backed manufacturer in Orangeburg, SC. This site was recently acquired and is transitioning from a "mom-and-pop" environment to a standardized, large-company culture—making this a high-impact role for a strong safety leader.
This position oversees one direct report along with a dotted-line medic. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about building safety culture, driving regulatory compliance, and elevating EH&S standards in a manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibilities :
- Lead and manage all Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs for the Orangeburg facility.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local safety standards.
- Drive culture transformation as the facility shifts from small-company practices to corporate-standard processes.
- Oversee training and implementation of core programs (LOTO, JSA, Risk Assessments, Emergency Response, etc.)
- Conduct safety meetings, audits, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Coach, mentor, and develop site personnel on safety expectations.
- Manage the facility's EHS budget, schedules, and performance requirements.
- Partner closely with supervisors, plant leadership, and corporate EH&S teams.
- Interface with the onsite medic (dotted-line report).
- Prepare and present EH&S metrics and technical documentation.
- Support continuous improvement and standardization across the site.
