Position Summary\n\nThe Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides high-quality respiratory care to patients of varying ages in an acute-care setting. The RRT is responsible for performing assessments, managing respiratory equipment and therapies, and collaborating with physicians and nursing staff to support optimal patient outcomes. This role requires clinical expertise, strong critical-thinking skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nPatient Care & Assessments\n\nPerform comprehensive respiratory assessments and evaluate patient responses to therapy.\n\nAdminister respiratory treatments including nebulizers, oxygen therapy, chest physiotherapy, CPAP / BiPAP, and mechanical ventilation support.\n\nAdjust ventilator settings and troubleshoot equipment in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.\n\nParticipate in patient stabilization, including Code Blue, Rapid Response, trauma, and emergency airway support.\n\nTherapeutic & Diagnostic Procedures\n\nConduct diagnostic tests such as ABGs, pulse oximetry, bedside spirometry, and airway management assessments.\n\nManage artificial airways, including endotracheal tubes and tracheostomies.\n\nAssist with intubations and extubations as needed.\n\nCommunication & Collaboration\n\nWork closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement respiratory care plans.\n\nProvide clear and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient progress.\n\nEducate patients and families on treatments, equipment use, and respiratory health.\n\nSafety & Compliance\n\nFollow all infection control guidelines, regulatory standards, and hospital policies.\n\nEnsure safe operation of all respiratory equipment and promptly report malfunctions.\n\nParticipate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain competencies for high-acuity patient care.\n\nQualifications\nRequired\n\nActive RRT credential through the NBRC.\n\nState Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license (state-specific; must be active by start date).\n\nBLS certification (AHA).\n\nStrong clinical experience in acute-care or critical-care respiratory therapy.\n\nPreferred\n\nACLS, PALS, and / or NRP certifications.\n\nExperience with ventilators, high-flow oxygen systems, CPAP / BiPAP, and emergency airway management.\n\nPrior hospital or travel RT experience.\n\nExperience with EMR systems such as EPIC, Cerner, or Meditech.
