Title : Benefits & Leave Programs Specialist
Contract until end of year
Pay range : $48-54 / hour
Location : San Rafael, CA
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of benefits, wellness, retirement, and leave programs for both union and non-union staff.
- Guide employees through their benefits, helping them understand and maximize their options.
- Administer workers' comp and leave programs with accurate documentation and timely coordination.
- Identify ways to streamline and automate benefits processes using HRIS and leave management tools.
- Ensure adherence to ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, and other regulations through audits and data tracking.
- Work closely with HR, Legal, Payroll, Finance, and Claims teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Manage vendor relationships, resolve service issues, and handle renewals and contracts.
- Support planning and execution of annual enrollment and plan transitions.
- Create and deliver benefit guides, policy materials, and required notices.
- Recommend improvements to plan design, cost modeling, and administrative practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or equivalent experienceMinimum 5 years in full-cycle benefits administrationPreferred : experience with retirement plans, union / multi-employer plans, and vendor / broker coordinationCertifications (Preferred) : CEBS, CBP, PHR, or SPHRProficiency in HRIS / benefits platforms (UKG or PlanSource a plus)Advanced Excel; basic Word, Outlook, PowerPointAbility to clearly explain complex benefits topics to diverse audiences.Compliance Knowledge : Strong understanding of ERISA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, ADA.
