Med / Surg RN Job Details

Location : Peoria, IL 61637 (Illinois nursing jobs)

Healthcare Setting : Acute Care, Medical / Surgical Unit (29 beds)

Start Date : January 5, 2026

End Date : May 11, 2026

Contract Duration : 18 weeks

Shift : 12-hour nights (7 : 00pm – 7 : 00am), 3 shifts / week

Guaranteed Hours : 36 hours / week

Estimated Weekly Salary : $1,990 - $2,130

Weekend Requirement : Every other weekend (Fri / Sat nights)

Holiday Requirement : Rotating holidays

Charting System : EPIC EMR

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Illinois RN license or proof of application (Illinois healthcare jobs)

BLS certification

Minimum 1 year of recent Med / Surg nursing experience

Proficient in titrating Heparin drips

Skilled in IV starts and resource utilization

Negative drug screen required

Strong communication and teamwork abilities

Med / Surg RN Responsibilities

Deliver direct patient care to diverse medical / surgical populations (GI bleeds, sepsis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, DVT, pulmonary embolisms, and more)

Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 5-6 : 1 during night shifts

Titrate Heparin drips according to protocols

Collaborate with charge nurses, crisis RNs, and patient care techs

Float to other medical / surgical units as needed (no ICU or chemotherapy patients)

Document patient care using EPIC EMR system

Participate in weekend and holiday rotations

Complete two shifts of unit-specific orientation
