Job Description :

The SLP will provide assessment, therapy and consultation services for students ages 3-21 who have a variety of communication disorders. Services may be provided individually, in small groups or in classroom settings. The SLP functions as a member of a team in assessing, placing and programming for all disabled students. The SLP consults and collaborates with regular and special education teachers. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications :

1. Washington State ESA certificate with Speech and Language Pathologist endorsement or ability to obtain

2. Master's degree in Speech Pathology

3. Satisfactory evaluations

4. Able to bill for Medicaid or receive appropriate training to bill

Preferred Qualifications :

The candidate should possess :

1. Academic background which includes speech pathology and audiology.

2. Ability to complete assessments and develop appropriate IEPs and therapy.

3. Understand Federal and State laws pertaining to disabled students.

4. An appreciation of the confidential nature of his / her work

5. An ability to manage time effectively and be flexible to the demands of the position.

6. An ability to work with students in a positive and enthusiastic manner.

7. Knowledge and experience in working with students with autism as well as students with very significant disabilities.

8. Experience in teaming with other professionals.

9. Able to maintain proper records and facilitate necessary paperwork.

10. Ability to communicate and work effectively with students in individual, small groups and classroom settings.

11. Have knowledge of in-classroom services delivery model.

12. Spanish speaking.

13. Punctual and consistent attendance.

Sense : The employee is required to talk / hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Lifting : The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards : While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and / or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.

Application Procedure : In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10 : 00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building / In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.
