Job Summary : The Engineering Director is responsible for overseeing the Engineering team. Plays an important role in helping to foster a culture of sustainable change through the creation and embedding of LEAN methodology, and the supporting framework, to deliver business transformation. Leads organizational efforts to monitor and improve organizational processes with the aim of making them effective, effortless, and efficient. Analyzes processes, develop strategies, lead activities, monitor progress and provide mentorship to achieve the best results. Research, develop, plan, and design mechanical products and systems. Activities may involve but are not limited to electric generators, internal, power-using machines, machine tools, material handling systems, industrial production equipment, etc. Help manage projects that will improve the company process flow, increase output, and decrease labor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Operates with a "safety first" approach.Lead a team of engineers to deliver process improvements and apply lean methodologies aimed to increased throughput and productivity.Identify and support the delivery of better value and greater efficiency through the identification and elimination of unnecessary complexity within business processes and identification of better ways of working.Develop an automation plan for the facility, including productivity action planTake ownership of change initiatives from evolution / efficiency identification through to project delivery via internal governance and controls.Coordinating technical project requirements with the project team, including clients, project managers, other mechanical engineers, and mechanical designers.Provide daily direction setting for the team including daily goals, staffing, and ongoing verification of system healthSupports production staff with problem solving, discrepancy resolution and training and evaluates and develops current process metrics and performance to identify areas requiring improvements.Identifies and drives cost reduction opportunities across manufacturing and supply chain. Anticipates cost avoidance and savings opportunities and proposes solutions to implement to achieve those opportunities. Identifies and drives cost reduction opportunities across manufacturing and supply chain, including but not limited to materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.Lead and participate in facility Lean Manufacturing operations through Kaizens, RCAs, Gemba, continuous improvement tools etc. Utilizes Lean Manufacturing processes and techniques, such as 5S, value stream mapping, visual controls, and total preventative maintenance to solve improve work processes and standards and ensure sustainable resultsSupport production staff with problem solving, discrepancy resolution, and training and evaluates and develops current process metrics and performance to identify areas requiring improvementsConducts management and training meetings with any / all applicable company personnel to establish, delineate, and review standard operating procedures, organizational policies, and also to coordinate functions and operations between departments. Main ActivitiesTeam Leadership & DevelopmentRecruit, mentor, and manage engineers to build a strong and high-performing team.Provide coaching, feedback, and career development opportunities.Conduct performance reviews and help team members grow professionally. Project ManagementPlan, prioritize, and oversee engineering projects from conception to completion.Allocate resources, set deadlines, and ensure deliverables meet requirements.Monitor project progress and adjust plans as needed to stay on track. Technical OversightGuide technical decisions and ensure best practices in software / hardware development.Review and approve architectural and design proposals.Ensure the team is using modern tools and technologies effectively. Cross-Functional CollaborationCollaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and other departments to align project goals.Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Represent engineering in leadership meetings and strategic planning sessions. Budgeting & Resource PlanningParticipate in budget planning and manage team expenditures.Forecast future staffing and technical needs based on business growth.
