TITLE : Health Services Exceptional Children Registered Nurse (RN)
FLSA STATUS : Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS : Associate's degree in Nursing, valid NC nursing license, and three years of experience in pediatric nursing preferred.

REPORTS TO : Health Services Director or Health Services Lead Nurse
JOB GOAL : Applies Nursing theory and process to health case management and develops certain related services for exceptional children.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care for students.
- Enters medical information into ezEdMed.
- Provides services for chronically ill special education students in the school setting and acts as a resource for their teachers.
- Provides health information to assist students and families in making health-related decisions.
- Provides both situational and comprehensive health assessments of handicapped students; reporting results to parents, Health Services Director, and / or the Health Services Lead Nurse.
- Implements nursing care plans for individual special education students with complex health care and / or maintenance needs.
- Provides emergency care for illness or injury.
- Meets with teachers to acquaint them with health programs, health services offered, and classroom emergency procedures for first aid.
- Interprets the health status of students to school personnel.
- Identifies health findings that do not fall within the normal range.
- Provides individual self-care instruction to students.
- Seeks out resources and shares information with other school nurses, parents, school social workers, etc.
- Recommends provisions for a school environment conducive to learning.
- Obtains a health and developmental history.
- Observes the student for development and health patterns in making a nursing assessment and nursing diagnoses.
- Confers with school personnel to interpret recommendations and data pertaining to student health care needs.
- Serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer-driven, and valuing fairness.
- Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Possess the visual acuity to work with data and figures, operate a computer, do extensive reading and prepare and present written and oral reports and statistical data.
Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
