Civil Engineering Technician (Water)

6+ Months

Denver, CO / San Marcos, CA / Tualatin, OR

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.

Duties :

  • The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Engineering Technician 5 under general supervision, performs functions requiring knowledge and use of electronic applications, standards, and document control processes / procedures in support of creating or modifying deliverable.
  • Provides technical guidance to other engineering technicians.
  • This role will be responsible for the development site drainage, grading, utility plans using Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation.
  • This role will be within the Governments & Water Utilities (G&Wu) group, supporting client needs related to water, wastewater, linear pipelines, and other water-related solutions.
  • Significant Civil 3D experience is required with use of pipe / pressure networks, proposed grading surfaces and plan and profile development.

Skills :

  • Typically, a minimum of 5 years related work experience.

    • Technical Skills :

  • Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Bentley MicroStation
  • Bluebeam
  • Experience in the appropriate electronic applications and programs required for performing assignments to include but not limited to CADD or other electronic applications.
  • Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, departmental guides and policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends.
  • Intermediate knowledge of company quality program.
  • Intermediate knowledge of other disciplines.
  • Basic knowledge of construction & constructability practices & principles.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides related to assigned engineering discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of procurement & contract administration.

    • Education :

  • Diploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

    • Key Responsibilities :

  • Engineering Standards : Understand and implement current standards, systems, document control, departmental guides and policies and procedures.
  • Quality / Continuous Improvement : Proactively apply knowledge of the Quality Program to ensure that the deliverables are accurate and compliant.
  • Demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency.
  • Ensures deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
  • Engineering Production : Broadening the use of applications to learn to continuously evaluate and improve methods, processes and procedures used to accomplish deliverables.
  • Create and develop deliverables based on a variety of design inputs.
  • Perform basic computations such as material quantity estimates and dimensional checks.
  • Project Coordination : Coordinate deliverables with other groups involved on the same project to minimize interference or errors.
  • May support field activities.
  • Responsible for support of project finalization including for example consolidation of records for as-built drawings or information to take off as-built quantities.
  • Client Focus : Focuses on the needs of internal clients while gaining an understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.
  • Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology : Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes.
  • May apply judgment and makes decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
