Salary : $24.00 hourly

Historic New England (HNE) seeks applicants for a part-time researcher specializing in King Philips War in New England to support the interpretation at our Clemence-Irons House and select 17th century sites in other New England states. This 9 month term-limited position will start in September of 2025, offering up to 20 work hours per week with schedule flexibility.

The research in this fellowship will focus on the mid-1600s to mid-1700s, utilizing all resources available to expand our knowledge of this history with the goal of providing a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the conflict and its impacts.

This is a post-masters degree position in a uniquely interdisciplinary setting with the opportunity to work across teams with HNE staff in areas of material culture, archives, preservation, architectural history, and visitor experience.Ideal candidates are those who will use this opportunity for growth in their career and educational endeavors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Conduct extensive primary and secondary research to deepen and broaden our knowledge of the topics, subjects, stories, and people, particularly as they relate to Historic New England sites
  • Participate in and contribute to Historic New Englands culture through staff training, blogs and vlogs, and public programs
  • Collaborate with the other researchers and staff to incorporate the research products into transformative experiences at our sites

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • A completed masters degree, or expected completion before September 1, 2025, in fields related to the fellowship topic
  • Commitment to the values of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
  • Means of transportation and ability to travel to Historic New England sites, as well as any libraries,archives, and research facilitiesasneeded
  • Strong belief in, and demonstrated commitment to, Historic New Englands mission and values
  • Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, excellence, and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA)
  • New England residency required
