Job description

Job Description and Duties

Do you enjoy field work in beautiful stream-side locations, visiting restoration sites or hiking across California's varied landscape? Join a motivated team of scientists developing and implementing the California Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Framework (CEMAF)! You will play a key role in supporting this creative, multidisciplinary group of scientists working on a comprehensive monitoring framework aimed at understanding the potential effects of ecosystem and human drivers on aquatic and terrestrial species. We are looking for a hard-working, solution-minded individual who is detail-oriented, organized, and has an affinity for technology and instruments used in field settings (e.g. acoustic records, camera traps, continuous loggers). In addition to supporting field activities, you will also digitize cannabis features using ARCGIS, and procure, calibrate, repair and fabricate equipment and scientific instruments used for environmental monitoring. Working Conditions

There is no state housing provided for this position. Work will occur in field settings throughout the state (via private or public transportation) and at the Office of Cannabis in West Sacramento. The position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule depending on operational need. Travel will include overnight stays and field conditions can be adverse, include heat, cold, rain, poison oak, slippery conditions and uneven terrain.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly during the workday
  • Ability to swim 50 yards and tread water for at least 5 minutes
  • Ability to stay on task while working independently or remotely
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and perform mathematical computations
  • Detail-oriented, punctual, solution-minded, and organized
  • Ability to drive 4x4 vehicles, and complete simple mechanical and construction tasks using tools
