POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a full-time Director to play a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial health and operational excellence of our virtual, digital-first organization. Reporting to the CEO, you will lead a small team and collaborate extensively with staff—including fractional leaders—our Board of Directors, agencies, and vendors.

We are looking for someone with significant experience leading financial planning and analysis for non-profit organizations. The director will be responsible for overseeing the entire finance and accounting function, ensuring the organization remains in good financial health and our resources are deployed effectively to achieve our strategic goals.

In addition to financial leadership, the Director will steward both strategic and operational planning, monitoring, and reporting, playing a key role in ensuring that all aspects of the organization’s work are aligned with its mission and long-term objectives. The Director will furthermore support the overall work of the Board of Directors and Board Committees through consistent collaboration and administration.

Finally, the Director will play a lead role in enhancing our organizational excellence, with direct responsibility for several operational and admin functions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong systems-thinking mindset, with a proven track record of configuring and implementing cross-functional systems and processes that enable the team to do their best work.

This role requires a proactive leader with demonstrated business acumen who is not only strategic but also hands-on, capable of leading and executing complex initiatives that require meticulous attention to detail. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will lead strategy and oversee implementation for the following :

Financial Management :

  • Lead the financial planning and analysis function, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and organizational growth.
  • Oversee the management and allocation of expenses across multiple funding envelopes, ensuring that resources are effectively utilized to achieve the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Manage the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payments and collections.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, providing clear and actionable insights to support governance and oversight.
  • Collaborate with revenue generation and program teams to develop funding proposals and prepare financial reports for funders, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain finance policies and internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the organization’s financial stability and ability to meet its obligations.
  • Ensure the integrity of the full accounting cycle, from transaction entry to financial reporting, maintaining accurate records and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of the annual audit, working closely with external auditors to ensure a clean audit outcome.
  • Manage the organization’s treasury functions, including cash management, investments, and banking relationships, to ensure liquidity and optimize financial returns.

Operations Management :

  • Monitor and report on the implementation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives organization-wide, with primary responsibility for embedding DEI principles through the finance and operations functions to foster a diverse and inclusive organizational culture.
  • Assist the CEO in overall Board governance matters including scheduling, agenda setting, and the preparation and distribution of materials.
  • Identify, assess, and manage organizational risks, including legal and insurance matters, to protect the organization and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of organizational policies, ensuring they are up-to-date, compliant, and effectively communicated to all staff.
  • Ensure the implementation and oversight of Safe Sport policies and practices.
  • Manage the procurement of supplies and services, ensuring cost-effective purchasing and efficient inventory management.
  • Oversee staff logistics, including travel arrangements, meeting schedules, and event planning, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Oversee the management of front-line contractors, ensuring clear communication, contract compliance, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Ensure the fulfilment of day-to-day operations including IT and human resources functions (payroll, benefits administration, and employee relations) including relationships with vendors and contractors.
  • Organizational Leadership and Planning :

  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, contributing to the organizational strategic ecosystem.
  • Lead the development and execution of the organization’s strategic planning process, determining timelines, processes and tools to support planning within and across departments in line with the strategic plan.
  • Facilitate operational planning and monitoring, helping to achieve efficient resource allocation and cross-functional execution.
  • Lead the establishment and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs), providing regular reports to leadership to track progress and drive performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to identify and mitigate organizational risks.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement within the organization.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred) or equivalent experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting within a non-profit organization.
  • Experience leading financial strategy and function for a nonprofit organization with multiple funding envelopes.
  • Experience working with boards of directors, finance committees, and external auditors.
  • Experience in operations management, including working closely with IT, HR, procurement, and logistics.
  • Experience with compliance and regulatory requirements related to finance, audit, and organizational operations.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to provide strategic insights and recommendations to support organizational growth.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive performance improvements.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, can present complex financial information to various stakeholders, including the board of directors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing organizational risks.
  • Proficient in financial software and tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel, or other financial management systems).

  • Bilingualism (French-English)

  • This is a full-time, permanent, and remote position with the option of flexible working hours (core hours are 9am to 5pm time zone dependent)

  • This position requires some travel (minimum two times a year within Canada for team and board gatherings and as needed for events or project delivery)
