Accountant I
The Accountant I performs general financial accounting duties for the development and control of financial records and reports. This position works closely with the Finance Division Director to participate in the preparation, maintenance and analysis of financial records ensuring compliance with internal and governmental standards. This position will remain open until filled. First consideration will be given to applications received on or before December 5th. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of December 15th.
Financial Accounting, Reporting & Audit Support :
- Perform accounting, analysis, and reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
- Prepare and review journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist in completion of annual audits and ACFR preparation.
- Prepare audit worksheets, analyses, and financial schedules.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory standards.
Budget Development & Financial Forecasting :
Assist in preparing and reviewing annual budgets and 5 year financial projections.Maintain annual equipment acquisition schedules.Assist in review of construction in progress schedules.Review department budget requests for accuracy and compliance.Support department staff in budget preparation and research.Develop and maintain budget files, summaries, and analysis.Assist in the development of budgetary reports for City Council.ERP Systems Administration & Integration :
Support the Finance Division Director in the administration of Enterprise ERP Solutions from Tyler Technologies.Conduct chart of accounts integrity checks for month / year-end closings.Reconcile data and interfaces from subsidiary systems.Use software tools and databases to manage, analyze, and share financial data.Revenue & Receivables Reconciliation :
Reconcile POS activity and resolve merchant card processor issues.Track and reconcile utility billing, online payments, and other receivables.Provide cash reconciliation documentation and support month-end closing.Support daily cash and investment tracking and reconciliation.Reconcile bank accounts.Capital & Fixed Asset Management :
Maintain fixed asset accounting within the ERP system.Track capital additions, disposals, and depreciation.Prepare capital asset reports for GASB 34, year-end financials, and insurance.Support recording and auditing of general and proprietary capital assets.Debt, Special Assessments & General Support :
Track bonded debt, prepare ACFR disclosures, and compile data for consultants.Manage special assessment records, certify rolls, and post entries.Coordinate with the County Auditor and maintain accurate logs and receivables.Provide general financial support and reporting to departments.Perform other duties as assigned.Tax Increment Financing and Tax Abatement Support :
Review and update semiannual tax increment financing payment schedules.Review and updated annual tax abatement payment schedules.Other duties as requested or assigned
Education and Experience :
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (e.g., business administration, finance, or economics) from an accredited four-year college or university OR Bachelor's degree another field with governmental or audit experience required.Accounting experience preferred.Governmental, public sector, or non-profit experience preferred.Experience with Enterprise ERP from Tyler Technologies or other ERP systems preferred.Experience with auditing procedures and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) preferred.Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience :
Proficiency in computer programs including Windows, and Microsoft Office suite, as well as experience with automated and computerized accounting systems.Knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental fund accounting, specifically Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).Experience providing both internal and external quality customer service.Equipment Used :
