Certifications : Certified and Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Clienttion Therapy
Must-Have :
Graduate of a JRCERT-accredited program in radiation therapy or a suitable equivalent
Description :
Administers safe and accurate radiation therapy treatment.
Ensures accurate treatment delivery and data capture.
Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and adheres to accurate treatment and simulation delivery.
Gathers necessary set-up aids and prepares room and equipment for patient.
Demonstrates necessary manual dexterity and psychomotor skills to operate and manipulate the mechanical motions of complex radiation-emitting treatment units.
Works under stress and pressure.
Adapts without difficulty to changes in work schedule or assigned area as departmental patient load dictates.
Visually monitors patient for unusual reactions and events and reports findings to radiation oncologist throughout radiation therapy.
Verbally reinforces radiation oncologist's advice to patients regarding reactions to treatment and their care.
Refers patients to other allied health specialists as needed.
Maintains appropriate treatment and simulation records and data.
Complies with departmental quality assurance practices.
Visually checks that consent forms for radiation therapy are in the treatment record and have been signed by the patient before administering treatment.
Monitors and maintains daily treatment records and machine quality assurance.
Adheres to portal image review / approval guidelines and adjusts in field placement as needed.
Notifies physics or engineering if measurements do not fall within accepted parameters.
Recognizes and reports erratic operation of equipment to supervisors and engineering staff.
Checks prescription, setup instructions, new start procedures, and patient information in the record and verification system.
Attends planning clinics as assigned.
Ensures that appropriate clinical skills are learned and maintained for treatment and simulation delivery.
Demonstrates adherence to departmentally identified base competencies.
Maintains accurate documentation and competency assessment criteria.
Facilitates learning consistent with documented competency level by attending lectures, seminars, and in-services.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and professional behaviors.
Participates in clinical instruction and evaluation.
Actively participates in practitioner and student education and assessment.
Shares knowledge and skills learned with students and peers.
Participates in departmental learning initiatives and in-services.
Orients and teaches new students or therapists.
Completes internal variance forms for any errors and forwards to supervisor within 24 hours.
Adheres to all departmental policies concerning radiation therapy treatment and attendance.
Follows time management procedures.
Utilizes resources and controls supplies and equipment through careful management.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates additional clinical skills such as completing clinical on-call new starts and performing clinical templates of electron fields.
Successfully immobilizes patients and delivers radiation using various techniques and systems.
Completes a rotation in CT Simulation to obtain necessary skills.
Masters quality assurance for CT simulator and produces custom bolus devices for prescribed treatment.
Documents patient setup and completes quality checklist items.
Simulates various sites and produces necessary immobilization devices.
