SCHOOL NURSE

Qualifications : Registered professional nurse (RN) currently licensed in Illinois, Current AHA BLS CPR / AED Certification
Reports To : Director Special Services and District Nurse
Evaluation : Annually
Work Calendar : Full-Time, 186 work days
Position Goal : Provide direct nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff.
Rate of Pay / Benefits : Salary range is from $53,500 to $58,000. The position includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits
The School Nurse shall be responsible for the following duties and perform other duties as assigned by the administration :
Superintendent / Board :
- Observe and adhere to all Board of Education policies and regulations, and all administrative rules and procedures
- Follow all State of Illinois codes relative to the requirements of the Health Services program
- Participate in the formulation, evaluation, and periodic review and revision of objectives, standards, policies and functions of school nurse services and the entire school health program
- Prepare and submit reports to the Superintendent and State Board of Education including ISBE and IDPH
Building :
Supervise and maintain school health office to include records, supplies and medicationsDevelop and administer a school health program and disseminate information to staff and community concerning health related issuesCollaborate with teachers, staff, parents and other related services to support students' readiness to learnParticipate in preschool and kindergarten screeningsBe available during the regular lunch hour (lunch is paid on call)Administer first aid, emergency care and nursing services to staffComplete an Employee Accident Report when an employee is injuredStudents :
Develop and implement individualized health plan for students with health conditionsObtain health histories and pertinent medical reports for all case study evaluations.Oversee the collection, assessment and maintenance of complete and accurate health records on all studentsReview medical records for compliance with state and district health requirements for enrollmentEnroll new students as outlined in policies and proceduresPlan and supervise the safe, effective administration of medication needed to maintain the child in school within district and state policy guidelines.Conduct vision and hearing screenings (with certification)Complete State of Illinois Immunization compliance report and all other required ISBE and IDPH reportsEvaluate health records on transfer students and follow through on any deficienciesProvide referrals to parents on health needs of individual studentsAdminister first aid, emergency care and nursing services to studentsComplete an accident report when a student is injuredIndividual :
Float / travel to assigned school as neededExhibit confidentiality in relation to students, parents and facultyDevelop a positive working relationship with administration, staff, students and parentsAssume responsibility for personal and professional growth and development to enhance professional knowledge and improve school nurse practice.Attend and successfully complete the State of Illinois training for Hearing screening and Vision screening for certificationMaintain current American Heart Association BLS CPR / AED certificationBe knowledgeable and adhere to the District Safety Plan
