With multiple offices across the state, we're looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual to join our surveying and mapping department as a Survey Technician.In this role, you'll work alongside seasoned Professional Land Surveyors and Certified Federal Surveyors, gaining valuable experience on diverse projects in Alaska. It's a chance to collaborate with some of the best surveyors in the state and be mentored by our experienced professionals, allowing you to grow in your career.As Survey Technician, your main responsibilities will include operating survey instruments, collecting field information, conducting field quality control, performing limited office reductions, and handling various survey computations. Join us at HDL, where your work truly matters!Requirements : UAA Geomatics student in 3rd or 4th year eager to get hands-on training and experience, with the possibility of transitioning into a full-time roleWorking knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3DValid Alaska Driver's License and a clean driving recordMust be able and willing to travel within Alaska Good physical fitness, capable of working safely and efficiently in various Alaskan terrainsDesired : Have or plan on taking the Fundamentals of Surveying Certification (FS)A willingness to learn all aspects of surveying, including; control, topographic, boundary, aerial (drone) and right-of-way surveyingResponsibilities : Serve as an survey technician on a two-person field survey crew Engage in primarily fieldwork, but may include some office work, contributing to control, boundary, subdivision, topographic & design surveys, as well as aerial mapping control and aeronautical surveysOperate survey measuring instruments, including digital levels, GPS equipment, and total stations, with precisionTake accurate and clear field notes and sketchesUnderstand and identify sources of measurement errorsComplete mathematical calculations and check field data in the field under the guidance of the party chiefPerform data reduction, field note reduction, calculations, data checks and staking computations using survey programs and AutoCAD Support the project surveyor with office tasks such as research, data reductions, equipment organization, and scanning field notesWork Environment This position involves both fieldwork and office work. When working in an office setting this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. When working in the field this position may be required to stand for long periods of time at a survey instrument and walk long distances carrying survey equipment. Inclement weather may encountered when working in the field.
