Buyer III
The Buyer III independently manages the procurement of moderately to highly complex components, subassemblies, and services for multiple concurrent engineer-to-order projects. This role requires strong supplier management skills, proactive risk mitigation, and the ability to drive performance across a supply base. Buyer III professionals often serve as lead buyers on critical projects and support cost and delivery targets at a higher level of autonomy. A strong technical foundation is required, including the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings to accurately procure customized parts and assemblies.
Key Responsibilities :
Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Procure project-specific and recurring components, including engineer-to-spec parts and build-to-print assemblies
- Perform supplier sourcing, evaluation, and selection for assigned material
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and payment terms with both domestic and international suppliers
- Monitor supplier KPIs such as on-time delivery and quality metrics, and drive continuous improvement
Project Ownership
Participate in project kick-off (T1) meetings and manage the purchasing plan for assigned parts from concept through deliveryAlign procurement with engineering releases, lead time constraints, and production requirementsCoordinate with document control to ensure supplier drawings and technical packages are completeProblem Solving & Risk Management
Lead resolution of supplier quality issues, late deliveries, and price disputes with minimal oversightIdentify long-lead items and manage early order placement to prevent production delaysPropose alternative sourcing or expedite strategies during engineering changes or supply interruptionsCollaboration & Process Improvement
Mentor Buyer IIs or interns on ERP usage, order execution, and supplier follow-upContribute to sourcing strategy development, supplier rationalization, and standardization efforts.Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or related fieldExperience : Minimum 4-7 years' experience in purchasing or supply chain; manufacturing environment preferredProficient in reading and interpreting complex technical drawings and part specificationsStrong understanding of machined and fabricated build-to-print componentsAdvanced ERP and Excel skills; experience managing supplier performance negotiationsSkills
Proficient in ERP purchasing functions and MRP planning tools (e.g., Oracle, SAP, or equivalent)Advanced reading of engineering drawings (including tolerances and materials)Intermediate to advanced negotiation skillsStrong supplier communication and managementChange management and ECN coordinationMicrosoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP), dashboards, and tracking toolsCompetencies
