What this job involves

The Junior Operating Engineer supports data center operations by monitoring systems and performing preventive maintenance to ensure continuous operation of all critical infrastructure. This role focuses on troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment in data center facilities while developing core operating engineer skills.

What is your day to day

Conducting routine inspections and preventive maintenance on critical systems including cooling electrical generators fire suppression and UPS

Monitoring building management systems and responding promptly to alarms and alerts

Diagnosing and resolving operational issues while collaborating with senior engineers on complex technical problems

Assisting with installation configuration and testing of new equipment and system upgrades

Maintaining detailed records of all maintenance activities and generating status reports

Following safety protocols and regulatory requirements while reporting any concerns to senior staff

Managing work orders through CMMS vendor coordination and customer-facing ticket systems

Learning all aspects of the data center to effectively respond to incidents that could impact critical systems

Physical Requirements

Walking large campus-like settings.

Frequent walking climbing bending kneeling lifting stooping and working / extending overhead including :

Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.

Climbing stairs and navigating rooftops to access equipment.

Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights.

Ability to Climb a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit.

Must be able to work different schedules.

Must be able to work Holidays.

Must be able to respond to site emergencies.

Desired experience and technical skills

High School diploma or GED equivalent

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to read and interpret technical documents safety procedures and regulatory codes

Capability to develop proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Professional interpersonal skills for interactions with tenants and contractors

Physical ability to lift 50 lbs climb ladders up to 30 ft navigate rooftops and work in various positions

Flexibility to work different schedules including holidays and respond to site emergencies

Preferred

Experience with electrical systems HVAC and / or critical environments

Prior work in data center or mission-critical facilities

Estimated compensation for this position :

49920..00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications location market conditions and internal considerations.
