Java Developer

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY Location : Harrisburg, PA (Hybrid 1 day / week onsite) Type : 6-month contract-to-hire Clearance : Not required (US Citizen or GC holder) Residency : Must be a PA resident Summary : Support mainframe transformation efforts with a mix of legacy maintenance and new development in a hybrid on-prem / AWS environment. Work in Agile teams to build, test, and maintain Java applications. PHEAA is not directly recruiting for this role. Responsibilities : Translate specs into Java code Build / test APIs and backend systems Conduct unit, system, and integration testing Participate in code reviews and Agile ceremonies Document code and deployment steps Support production (incidents, patches, upgrades) Estimate and report task effort On-call : 1 week, 3 4 times / year Must-Have Skills : Java SE / EE (8+), Spring (Boot, MVC, Data), Hibernate / JPA REST & SOAP APIs, JMS / Kafka, Tomcat / JBoss AWS : EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, CloudWatch Containers : Docker, Kubernetes / ECS Build / CI : Maven / Gradle, Jenkins / GitLab CI Git, Agile / Scrum, SDLC process knowledge Unit testing : JUnit, Mockito, TestNG Security vulnerability remediation Nice-to-Have : Quarkus or microservices frameworks Front-end (Angular, React) Azure or GCP experience AWS / cloud certs Requirements : Bachelor's in CS / IT or related field 3+ years Java development experience Strong problem-solving and communication skills
