Job Description : JOB DECRIPTION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

The Clinical Training Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and training of competent clinicians, capable of providing services to adults and families in a manner that is trauma-informed and responsive to needs, culture, gender, and military status. The Clinical Training Specialist teaches a wholistic approach in assessing needs, developing safety plans, and providing any other clinical services of benefit, including case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, and skills training. The Clinical Training specialist is responsible for assisting in the training of staff to collaborate in the development of person-centered recovery plans aimed at helping each individual and family achieve their goals and objectives.

The Clinical Training Specialist is primarily responsible for on the job and ongoing training of QMHP staff within Metrocares Mental Health Division, including the Mental Health Outpatient Clinics, Assertive Community Treatment, and Housing and Homeless Services. This includes both adult and child and adolescent programming. In training of new employees, the Clinical Training Specialist assists with developing training guides / orientation materials and providing instruction through a post-New Employee Clinical Orientation course on a rolling basis. Within Clinical Orientation, the Clinical Training Specialist assists in the teaching of the evidence-based practices primarily used by QMHPs. This includes presenting the clinical skills and concepts, assessment of comprehension, coordination of skill practice sessions, and competency observation of each skill at established intervals. Responsibilities include collaboration with Metrocare Clinical Managers to ensure that competency and a high quality of care are maintained through ongoing training, clinical supervision, and observation. This position does not have an expectation of reaching a productivity benchmark through direct care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The essential functions listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job.

  • Assists in serving as in-house expert and quality improvement trainer in all evidenced based treatment modalities required through Texas Resiliency and Recovery.
  • Participates in all HHSC, accreditation-based, and Medicaid required trainings to continually develop and update training guides.
  • Assists in the development of training programing through a variety of mediums written, lecture, video, and guided group activities.
  • Assists with implementing clinical competencies to all employees in the mental health division of Metrocare Services, primarily with existing clinicians and peers as needed, including new clinicians and peer providers during Clinical Orientation as well
  • Assists in providing refresher and on the job trainings on clinical documentation of recovery plans and progress notes to clinicians working within Metrocare Mental Health.
  • Performs ad hoc trainings as requested by Licensed Clinical Trainer, Division Directors, or VP of MH, including the provision of on the job training with underperforming clinicians with a need for re-training.
  • Works closely with Quality Assurance to ensure staff demonstrate fidelity to approved curriculum, person-centered services / documentation and close adherence to Mental Health Division programming.
  • Educates staff on how to access and clinically document services in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Educates staff on how to access all pertinent information.
  • Provides Human Resources with all training records to record in Relias
  • Perform administrative duties associated with all job tasks.
  • As a training specialist, he / she is expected to guide a strength-based and trauma-informed approach, working collaboratively with staff to mentor staff that collaborate with individuals in service, internal, and external treatment team members in supporting clients on a path to recovery and wellness.
  • As a training specialist, helps clinical staff learn to identify needs and develop individualized, strength-based recovery plans that reflect clients goals and objectives.
  • As a training specialist, teaches staff to conduct screening and assessment and determine a level of care utilizing Texas Recovery and Resiliency criteria. Teaches clinical staff to consider individual strengths, preferences, and needs in referring to clinically indicated treatments.
  • As a training specialist, teaches new clinical staff core concepts of psychiatry to help gain an understanding how to most effectively working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Models and supports staff in health and wellness activities and with using healthy coping skills.
  • As a training specialist, teaches direct care staff how to facilitates psychoeducation and life skills groups as well as individually.
  • Teaches direct care staff expectations for providing continuous services to an assigned caseload through Engagement, Outreach, Case Management, and Psychosocial Rehabilitation services.
  • Teaches clinical staff to effectively provide case management and link individuals to area resources, housing, and to build a system of natural supports.
  • Instructs clinical staff on regulatory guidelines and practical implications of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Prepares staff to complete all paperwork requirements within 24 hours of a service and to maintain quality, up-to-date clinical records.
  • Prepares clinical staff to enlist family members / support system whenever possible to build support.
  • Teaches crisis intervention and assessment skills.
  • Attends and participates in all scheduled meetings
  • Maintains knowledge of internal and external policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, including all Metrocare policies and procedures and Quality Assurance Plan, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Experience and knowledge of the following evidence based treatment modalities and approaches : Child / Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment, Illness Management and Recovery, Seeking Safety, Critical Time Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Co-occurring Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Disorders, Nurturing Parenting, Skills Streaming, Anger and Aggression Replacement Therapy, Preparing Adolescents for Young Adulthood, Barkleys Defiant Child / Teen, Assertive Community Treatment, Supported Employment, Supported Housing, and familiarity with Via Hope Certified Peer Specialist trainings.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred, plus 2 years of experience in providing direct care in a community mental health setting.
  • Bachelors level with 3-4 years of experience can also be considered.
  • Some experience in training or teaching.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

    Basic math skills required.

    Ability to work with reports and numbers.

    REASONING ABILITY :

  • Ability to carry out oral and / or written instructions.
  • Ability to operate as a team member, yet able to make positive, individual judgments.
  • Ability to assess needs of staff and implement a training plan.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment, take initiative and be creative.
  • Ability to successfully use an automated clinical record keeping system.
  • Ability to organize and track training data in Excel
  • COMPUTER SKILLS :

  • Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Intermediate level on MS Excel, Email and word processing programs
  • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.
  • Ability to organize and track training data in Excel
  • Ability to successfully use an automated clinical record keeping system.
  • CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

    Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment.

    Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Centers liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
