Position Summary

The Career Coordinator supports student success by connecting students with apprenticeship, internship, and employment opportunities. This position is responsible for recruiting and developing industry partnerships, coordinating apprenticeship and career placement programs, and assisting students with career planning, portfolio development, and job readiness. The Coordinator works collaboratively with Student Services, Instructional staff, and Workforce Development to promote strong relationships between the College and local business and industry partners.

Salary Range $45,220 - $62,710 (12 month – Exempt Professional)

Work Hours : 8 : 00 am - 5 : 30 pm Monday - Thursday and 8 : 00 am - 12 : 00 pm Friday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee Registered Apprenticeship (RA) and Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Programs (IRAP), as well as cooperative education initiatives such as Drake State’s Connecting Students to Industry and FAME programs
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the U.S. Department of Labor, Alabama Office of Apprenticeships, and WIOA partners
  • Develop, maintain, and expand relationships with local employers to create apprenticeship and job placement opportunities for students
  • Establish and maintain records of all work-based learning programs, employer contacts, and job listings
  • Organize and lead annual and periodic events, including the Career Fair, Workforce Summit, and on-campus recruiting visits
  • Develop and facilitate workshops on topics such as résumé writing, interview preparation, career readiness, and professional presentation
  • Coordinate WIOA program services and related reporting for students
  • Collect, analyze, and report employment outcomes and gainful employment data for career and technical programs
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to develop and maintain apprenticeship and internship policies and procedures
  • Assist with the creation of job descriptions that align with students’ academic and career goals
  • Conduct high school visits and attend college and career fairs to promote apprenticeship and career programs
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of workforce and employment trends through professional development and participation in relevant conferences
  • Coordinate collection of career placement, licensure, and other employment data for institutional reporting and accreditation purposes
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive career resource library including information on career clusters, labor market trends, and regional employment opportunities
  • Serve on college committees as assigned and participate in accreditation, certification, and institutional effectiveness activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Student Success Specialist, Dean of Students and / or President

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Career / Technical Education, Program or Project Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of directly related full-time experience in higher education.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience in business or industry
  • Demonstrated experience with job placement, internship, or co-op programs
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain partnerships with business and industry
  • Experience in career planning, student advising, and / or student success initiatives
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with computers and software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to quality customer service and professional public relations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners
  • Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to travel as needed
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as required
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Career / Technical Education, Program or Project Management, or a related field
  • Familiarity with business and industry within the College’s service area
  • Experience developing and managing data systems or processes
  • Prior work experience in business, industry, or occupational education
  • Knowledge of student placement services, workforce initiatives, and apprenticeship programs
  • Understanding of WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) administration

    BENEFITS

    Sick Leave

    All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Further retirement benefits may be found on this page under Alabama Teacher's Retirement.

    All regular full-time non-instructional staff earn annual leave per month. A complete description of leave benefits can be found with the Human Resources office.

    (may accumulate up to 480 hours)

    Personal Leave

    All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns up to two (2) regularly scheduled workdays of personal leave per leave year.

    Unused Personal Leave converts to sick leave if not used.

    (converts to sick leave at the end of August each year if not used)

    Professional Leave

    Up to 10 days a year of professional development leave with pay may be granted by the President.

    Retirement

    The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.  Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control.   The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.  The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. For more information visit  The Retirement Systems of Alabama . All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.

    Tier I  - Pays 7.50% monthly.  State matches 13.57% (effective 10 / 01 / 24)

    Tier II  – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 12.60% (effective 10 / 01 / 24)

    Law Enforcement Officers :

    Tier I -Pays 8.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10 / 01 / 24)

    Tier II - Pays 7.20% monthly.  State matches 12.60% (effective 10 / 01 / 24)

    Health Insurance

    PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control.  The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Refer to the  Wellness Program  section to learn how you and / or your spouse can receive a wellness premium waiver.

    If desired, the employee may elect four options rather than health insurance options to include hospital indemnity, cancer, dental, and vision.

    Tuition Assistance

    This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.  The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

    Employees / Dependents at two-year colleges :

  • 1 / 3 waived after 1st year
  • 2 / 3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3 / 3 waived after 3rd year
  • Note :  Employee is vested after 10 years in Retirement System.  Additional information regarding retirement may be obtained from the Retirement System Web site at  www.rsa.al.gov .

    Background Check Requirement

    In accordance with Alabama Community College System Policy and guidelines, the applicant chosen for employment will be required to sign a consent form and agree to a non-refundable fee of $17.40 for a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon the receipt of a clearance notification from the criminal background check.
