The nurse manager plays a key role in ensuring excellent patient care, achieving financial objectives, and fostering leadership development. This position is accountable for developing departmental structure, processes, and outcome standards for one unit. Job duties are distributed as follows : 50% Tactical, 40% Operational, and 10% Strategic. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities that report to a Nurse Director. Responsibilities include overseeing the clinical nursing environment and contributing to strategic planning. The role also includes managing day-to-day operations and standards of care. Facilitating collaborative problem-solving, advocating for resources, and promoting shared decision-making are key aspects. The responsibilities encompass managing budgets and ensuring employee engagement, recruitment, retention, and competency verification. Championing the use of available resources ensures nursing care is efficient and effective. Facilitating collaborative decision-making and upholding professional independence is essential. This role ensures staff are updated on executive-level activities. Assisting with the development, implementation, and management of annual capital / operating and personnel budgets for the unit is required. Effective resource management ensures financial goals of the department are met. Modeling professionalism and fostering employee engagement on the unit is critical. This role ensures a competent and sufficient number of staff to meet patient care needs. Hiring, orientation, retention, and employee satisfaction are key responsibilities. Ensuring that new skill training and ongoing competency verification is completed annually is part of the role. Evaluating staff competency through performance reviews and peer reviews is essential. Coordination of performance and compliance with patient safety initiatives is necessary. This includes adherence to federal, state, and other regulatory bodies and standards.
