American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN Charge Nurse for a Med / Surg unit with telemetry monitoring and minimum one year of specialty experience.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a hospital-based Medical Surgical unit (non-surgical), caring for a diverse range of adult patients except primary cardiac casesUnit features 44 private and semi-private rooms with a Level II Trauma Center environmentTypical patient diagnoses include stroke, COPD, respiratory illnesses, GI bleeds, renal failure, electrolyte imbalances, altered mental status, weakness, and non-operable fracturesMed-Tele patients are monitored with telemetry; nurses are expected to read and interpret rhythm stripsRN day shift ratio is 1 : 4-5 and night shift is 1 : 5-6, adjusted for acuity and tech supportFloating required to any area with Med / Tele patients as neededUses Cerner for charting (not required), Alaris pumps, and Pyxis medication management systemsWork schedule is 7A-7P, 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend rotationNo on-call responsibilitiesHoliday time off (RTO) is not approved at this timeCharge nurses generally do not have a direct patient assignmentMultidisciplinary team support includes CNAs, house supervisors, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and therapy staffTwo days of hospital orientation followed by one shift on unitProfessional dress code; any color scrubs allowed, but crocs with holes and artificial nails are prohibitedPersonal cell phone use is restricted except during breaksFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyRTO requests require manager approvalFree parking available in designated areas\n \n Requirements\n
Active ME or Compact RN license requiredMinimum of one year recent Med / Surg RN experience required; previous charge experience highly preferredBLS certification requiredNIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and ACLS certification preferredProficiency in cardiac and insulin drip management, heparin drips, and general Med / Surg nursing skills (wound care, IV antibiotics, drain and tube management, IV starts, central line management, trach care, chest tube management)Must be comfortable with telemetry monitoring and interpreting EKG / rhythm stripsApplicants must not have worked previously in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health HospitalCandidates must reside 100+ miles South / Southwest of Bangor, ME to be consideredFlu vaccination required unless an approved medical exemption is provided\n Benefits\n
