Assistant Director, Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program / Program Coordinator Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows Program

Wellesley College is a proud participant in the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program and is seeking an Assistant Director to aid in the implementation of a vibrant Wellesley McNair Scholars Program and the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) Program. Budgeted time : 80% McNair and 20% Mellon Mays. The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) is committed to broadening the range of scholarly perspectives in the US academy, with a focus on the humanities and the humanistic social sciences. The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is a federally funded TRiO Program that supports students from low-income, first generation, and underrepresented groups in successfully preparing for doctoral study. The McNair Scholars Program at Wellesley College is focused on supporting eligible students who are pursuing STEM degrees. The ultimate goal of sharing responsibility in this role is to create a community among the scholars in both programs, which is a critical role played by the Assistant Director / Program Coordinator.

The successful candidate for this position will report to the Director of the Wellesley McNair Scholars Program and will also work collaboratively with the faculty director of the Mellon Mays program. The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting both the administrative functions and the student support functions of the programs. This includes, but is not limited to, planning and implementing programming focused on preparing students for graduate school admission, advising and mentoring McNair scholars and Mellon Mays fellows, planning and participating in conference travel with students, and tracking and documenting current students and program alumni. The successful candidate will be a strong advocate for student success and will demonstrate an empathetic approach to student mentoring that empowers underrepresented students to thrive in a PWI. The position requires some overnight travel away from campus with both groups.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Assist the Director with the overall administration of the McNair grant, including project management consistent with TRiO regulations and College policy
  • Supports new scholar recruitment and selection process
  • Provides 1 : 1 and group advising to a subset of scholars in the program
  • Maintains records of student contacts in accordance with the pre-established recording system
  • Assist the Director in planning and implementing programming and seminars
  • Assist the Director in processing accounts payable and accounts receivable requests for the department, in accordance with College policy and procedure
  • Meet regularly with Faculty director to plan programming
  • Meet regularly with Mellon Mays fellows
  • Ensure coordination of events between Mellon Mays and McNair programs
  • Provides overall administrative support to the department
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications :

  • Education : Master's degree in related discipline required
  • Experience : 2+ years of progressively responsible administrative experience including budgeting, record keeping / file management, and project management
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring (e.g. counseling, teaching, academic advising, etc.) students from first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented backgrounds
  • 1+ year of program planning and implementation
  • Skills and Abilities :

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Workday, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Qualtrics preferred
  • This is a full-time, one-year fixed-term, administrative staff position, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon good performance and continued availability of funding.

    Salary : $68,000.00 - $77,000.00
