Title : Sheet Metal Technician
Location : Indianapolis, IN
Contract : 6-12months with possible extension
Job Summary
Responsible for fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal components for general aviation aircraft. Duties include cutting, bending, forming, and assembling sheet metal parts using fabrication tools, blueprints, and aviation standards. Work involves metal shaping, drilling, riveting, smoothing seams, corrosion treatment, and ensuring all repairs meet FAA and aircraft structural requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine project requirements and assembly sequence.
Cut, fabricate, modify, and assemble sheet metal parts to specifications.
Perform rivet and component removal, drilling, deburring, dimpling, and countersinking.
Form radiuses and bend metal using sheet metal tools and fabrication equipment.
Install solid rivets (rivet gun or squeeze tool), blind rivets, and fasteners.
Inspect and smooth joints, seams, and metal surfaces.
Identify, treat, and remove corrosion; apply etching, Alodine, and primer coatings.
Guide and instruct junior technicians or helpers as needed.
Perform other related aircraft sheet metal duties as required.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
Minimum 3 years of diversified aviation sheet metal experience .
Ability to obtain and maintain an airport security badge (if required).
Qualifications & Technical Skills
Knowledge of aircraft structural repair manuals and FAA AC 43.13-1B .
Skilled in corrosion identification and removal procedures.
Proficient in metal preparation, etching, Alodine treatment, and primer application.
Strong understanding of aviation fasteners (rivets, bolts, screws, nuts, washers).
Ability to operate sheet metal fabrication tools and equipment safely and accurately.
