About the Role

The Commercial Insurance Sales Agent is a dynamic and results-driven professional responsible for driving revenue growth by acquiring new business clients and strategically expanding relationships with existing ones. This role is the frontline of our company, tasked with proactively identifying sales opportunities, educating business owners on risk management, and crafting customized insurance portfolios that protect their assets, employees, and operations. Success in this role requires a hunter mentality, deep industry knowledge, exceptional relationship-building skills, and a commitment to being a trusted advisor rather than just a salesperson. $40,000 base + Commissions!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

New Business Development (Prospecting & Hunting) :

  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new sales leads within a target market (e.g., small to mid-sized businesses, specific industries like construction, hospitality, or tech).
  • Utilize a multi-channel approach to prospecting, including cold calling, networking, referrals, strategic partnerships, and attending industry events.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities to meet and exceed sales quotas.

Client Consultation & Needs Analysis :

  • Conduct in-depth consultations with business owners and decision-makers to understand their unique operations, financial exposures, and risk tolerance.
  • Analyze current insurance policies to identify coverage gaps, overlaps, or cost-saving opportunities.
  • Perform on-site risk assessments when necessary.
  • Solution Design & Proposal Development :

  • Collaborate with underwriters and product specialists to design comprehensive and competitive insurance proposals (e.g., BOP, Workers' Comp, Commercial Auto, E&O, D&O, Cyber Liability).
  • Clearly articulate the value proposition, coverage details, and terms of proposed solutions.
  • Sales Presentation & Negotiation :

  • Present proposals to clients, effectively addressing questions and objections.
  • Negotiate terms with both clients and insurance carriers to secure the best possible coverage at a competitive price.
  • Close sales and secure binding agreements.
  • Skills and Attributes

  • Hunter Mentality & Proactive Drive : This is not a passive, order-taking role. The best agents are self-starters who actively seek out new opportunities through relentless prospecting, cold calling, and networking. They are intrinsically motivated to build their pipeline and pursue new business.
  • Exceptional Consultative Selling Skills : The ability to move beyond just selling a product to acting as a trusted advisor. This involves asking insightful questions, deeply understanding a client's business and unique risks, and educating them on solutions that solve their specific problems.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities : Commercial policies are complex puzzles. Agents must be able to analyze a company's operations, decipher existing coverage, identify gaps or overlaps, and creatively structure a portfolio of coverages that provides optimal protection.
  • Outstanding Communication and Presentation Skills : Must be able to clearly, confidently, and concisely explain complex insurance concepts to clients who are not experts. This includes writing compelling proposals, delivering persuasive presentations, and negotiating terms with both clients and underwriters.
  • Resilience and a High Tolerance for Rejection : Sales is a numbers game filled with "no's" before getting to a "yes." The ability to handle rejection professionally, maintain a positive attitude, and persist without getting discouraged is absolutely critical for long-term success.
  • Relationship-Building (People Skills) : Insurance is fundamentally a relationship business. Building genuine trust, rapport, and credibility with business owners, CFOs, and key decision-makers is what wins accounts and ensures long-term client retention.
  • Technical Industry Acumen : A solid and continuously updated knowledge of commercial insurance products (e.g., BOP, General Liability, Workers' Comp, Cyber, E&O), policy language, underwriting processes, and risk management principles is non-negotiable for providing credible advice.
  • Meticulous Organization and Time Management : Juggling a large pipeline of prospects, numerous active accounts, renewals, and client service requests requires superb organizational skills. Effective agents are masters at prioritizing tasks and managing their time to maximize selling hours.
  • Education

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
