Position Summary :

Established in 1964 as the first public university in southeast Florida, Florida Atlantic University serves 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students on six campuses along Florida's beautiful southeast coast in Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties. The Florida Atlantic University Libraries have prioritized working collaboratively with an R1 campus community on a Top 100 research initiative that includes a highly library engaged campus and community environment. FAU Libraries house approximately 3.7 million items and provide access to over 80,000 electronic journals, nearly 500 databases, and a growing collection of e-books and streaming videos. The Libraries house many distinctive collections, including artists' books, sound recordings, print music, rare books and manuscripts, and University Archives. Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean for Access, Research, and Learning Services, the successful candidate will join the Libraries' Digital Initiatives and Scholarship Unit and will be responsible for supporting the Research Hub initiatives, and the management and maintenance of the institutional repository (Digital Commons), including the service of hosting Florida Atlantic journals.

The successful candidate will have broad knowledge of scholarly communication issues within higher education, experience in supporting open dissemination of research, and best practices knowledge regarding data set storage and security. The Digital Initiatives and Scholarship Unit provides the Research Hub learning space for graduate students, post-docs, doctoral students, researchers, visiting scholars, and community users. In addition, this unit creates online collections from unique materials held in Special Collections and University Archives, serving as the University's repository for intellectual output generated on campus including FAU created journals and curated displays.

This position will primarily work on the Boca Raton Campus but may at times be asked to work at one of five other FAU campuses.

Essential Functions

• Serve as a champion and coordinator of the Libraries' digital institutional repository, Digital Commons, including the service of hosting Florida Atlantic journals.
• Serve as the Libraries' resource person for questions related to the institutional repository and open routes for research dissemination
• Collaborate on initiatives that advance open access to knowledge created by Florida Atlantic researchers.
• Support the shared work of the Libraries' Digital Initiatives and Scholarship Unit including the use of Scopus / SciVal and other research intense databases and software.
• Liaise with the Colleges to hold digital download parties showing how to use Digital Commons to serve as : an online archive of scholarly and creative works; a research collaboration tool; to create impact reports for promotion / tenure documents; to upload digital vitae / the creation of digital portfolios; to guide the creation of ORCID IDs; and to easily and legally download copyrighted materials.
• Ensure Florida Atlantic journals are entered into Digital Commons.
• Expand Digital Commons services to include undergraduate and graduate student ETDS, creative works, journal publications, conference proceedings and poster sessions.
• Research and recommend free data software storage options used by the State University System of Florida (SUS).
• Build and maintain partnerships with graduate students, postdoctoral students, faculty, researchers and visiting scholars.
• Provide instruction sessions, presentations, curated displays, poster sessions, and one-on-one and group consultations to users.
• Participate in Libraries' liaison program including development and review of research guides.
• Support the Libraries' Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other strategic initiatives.
• Support efforts to maintain R1 and obtain Top 100 status for the University.
• Develop an annual professional development plan.
• Investigate opportunities to carry out, publish, and present original scholarship, research, and scholarly projects related to the area of expertise or responsibility.
• Serve on appropriate Libraries, University, regional, state or national committees including professional committees, and actively participate in Libraries' and campus faculty governance.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
