Job Title : Behavioral Case Aide

Position Summary :

The purpose of this position is to provide visitation and transportation services for families and children being reunified by the Puyallup Tribal Court System and assists in providing support to Case Workers, CPS, and Foster Home Licensors where needed. Behavioral Support Case Aides will be required to assist with afterhours tasks such as emergency response, events and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Participates in weekly staffing meetings with direct supervisor for the purpose of addressing family and child needs.

Supervises visits and provides caseworker with detailed written visitation reports of each assigned family and in person communication if there are any concerns or needs that arise.

Provides transportation for children and families to identified appointments related to their specific case plan and documents complete case records of each transport.

Assist department in identifying resources for families, i.e. phone calls, setting appointments, transportation.

Assists department in obtaining necessary paperwork to meet the needs of families.

Assists caseworkers with paperwork, filing and uploading into databases, and other case management duties.

May need to transport children out of state / or assist caseworkers in these transports.

Available to respond to afterhours emergencies as needed.

Flexibility in scheduling visitations to meet family's needs.

Maintains multiple calendars and schedules.

Promptly follows up with supervisor and initiates appropriate actions if there are any concerns with the current assigned caseload.

Maintains confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries regarding clients.

Participates in departmental staff meetings and trainings.

Will continuously engage in professional development including but not limited to, cross training throughout the department and best practices of child welfare service delivery.

Participate in departmental community events.

Assists Caseworkers with coordinating educational advocacy for school age children and health and dental services.

Assists Caseworker in identifying and accessing childcare.

Assists Caseworkers in accessing and providing culturally relevant services to each child.

Assist with crisis support services 24 / 7 including crisis planning, phone coaching and assistance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. May act as a resource and trains Case Aides.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and / or Experience

Associates degree in Human Services preferred. High School Diploma / GED required and two years related experience and / or training working with Native American children and their families in a Social Work setting; or one year of experience and agreement to follow a supervision plan until the two year requirement is met. Two years of behavioral support experience is preferred. Must have beginner to intermediate computer experience in Word and Excel. Must have no current or previous Tribal or State CPS history or founded allegations of child abuse or neglect.

Note : Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience (e.g., if you work 20 hours per week for a 12-month period you will be credited with 6 months of experience).

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Licenses Or Certificates

Must have a clean driving record for the past five years (no driving related criminal actions or traffic related infractions either pending or adjudicated).

Must have safe and reliable transportation.

Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State driver's license and proof of insurance. Must be insurable to occasionally drive Tribal vehicles.

Must pass a Washington State DSHS criminal history and CPS background inquiry upon hire and every two years thereafter unless otherwise indicated.

First Aid and CPR certification must obtain within the first 90-days of hire.

HIV / AIDS certification must obtain within the first 90-days of hire.

BBP (Blood Borne Pathogens) certification must obtain within the first 90-days of hire.

Mandated Reporting training must obtain within the first 30-days of hire.

Trauma Informed Care certification must obtain within the first 90-days of hire.

Other Skills and Abilities

Must be willing to attend training for professional development. Adheres to the Child and Family Protection Code; Duty to Report Child Abuse and Neglect.

Knowledge of Native American family dynamics. Sensitive to and familiar with the social / cultural needs of Tribal children and their families.

Must be 21 years old or 18-20 if enrolled in a BSW program.

Knowledge of child safety.

Behavior management training authorized by DCYF supervisor to include but not limited to :

Redirection effective problem solving

Excellent verbal and written communication

Knowledge of basic child development and milestones

Effective interpersonal communication

Mandated reporter training required upon hire and annually thereafter for all PTCS staff.

Must maintain a strict level of confidentiality at all times.

Must be available to work some nights and weekends as needed.
