Job Description

The Legislative Affairs Agency (LAA) is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as a Legislative House Finance Committee Page. The position will be opened until filled.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
  • Good organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to write and speak clearly concisely and in a well-organized manner
  • Ability to act professionally objectively and impartially in dealing with legislators and public
  • Ability to communicate and perform effectively and diplomatically with personal contacts
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle politically sensitive work
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs
  • Knowledge of the Alaska legislature legislative procedure and legislative committees Alaska state government divisions and agencies helpful but not necessary
  • Alaska resident
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the House Finance Committee support staff (legislative Finance Division) to support the committee process and session activities of the Legislature.
  • Paging and providing assistance during House Finance Committee hearings works at the direction of the Committee Assistant and helps with the daily committee / office operation and perform duties as assigned.
  • This position will work 40 hours per week during legislative session.
  • Paging during committee hearings.
  • Preparation set up clean up for meetings and help in any way that facilitates operation of the committee.
  • Prepares and maintains committee members files and other documents. Distributes documents and materials and other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Responds to committee members staff legislators and public inquiry or request for assistance.
  • Answers office telephones and generally supports Committee Assistant and Secretaries.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent.

    At least one year of relevant experience.

    Special Notice :

    This is a fully exempt job class under AS 39.25.110(3). Positions in the Legislative Affairs Agency are required to be politically neutral and subject to certain restrictions on partisan political activity.
