Job Title : Registered Nurse
Job Summary :
To provide direct nursing services to students and staff in the school community. To serve as team leader for other school nurses in the district. To perform all duties according to the board of education policy and state law.
Qualifications :
Current registered nurse licensure in the state of Illinois is required.
Baccalaureate Degree Preparation preferred.
Current CPR certification.
Evaluation :
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on staff Evaluation.

Terms of Employment :
This is a full-time, 9-month position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement in Health Services Category.. Compensation is hourly, with pay and benefits determined by the Board of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities :
Nursing Care
- Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, counseling, and emergency care to students and staff in response to nursing assessments and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
- Safely store, administer, document, and monitor medication given at school.
- Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates, including immunizations, physical examinations, medical conditions, and related archival responsibilities.
- Performs mandated screening procedures and follow-up for deficits in vision, hearing, growth and development, and other physical deficits.
- Participates as a crisis team member and provides crisis intervention for students and staff when they experience sudden illness or injury.
- Makes appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse / neglect as a mandated reporter.
Communication
Maintains communication with administrators, other nurses, teachers, other school personnel, and parents / guardians to enhance cooperative action and meet students' health and safety needs.Provides health services, information, instruction, and counseling effectively and positively to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.Completes accident / incident reports for students / staff.Complies data for statistical purposes.Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.Notifies building administrators of any significant patterns of student absences.Initiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies, and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.Organization
Maintains school health records by the Illinois School Student Records Act, providing efficient retrieval of information and other related archival responsibilities.Participates in developing health-related policies and procedures in compliance with state mandates and current health practices.Maintains a daily log of student / staff visits and documentation on individual health records.Maintains the health office facility's daily environment and recommends purchasing supplies.Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.Performs other health or school-related work as required.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods. Depending on the class / student assignment, the employee may occasionally lift, push, pull, and / or move up to 50 pounds. Repetitive bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist students are also required. Employees may reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
