Job description

Position Summary

The Payroll Manager oversees the day-to-day payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for multiple companies, states, and union workers. This role supervises payroll staff, ensures compliance with all laws and regulations, and partners with HR and Finance to support company goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise payroll team and daily operations.
  • Process complex payrolls : multi-state, union, certified, and multi-company.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records in compliance with state, federal, and company policies.
  • Ensure timely payment of wages, taxes, garnishments, and other withholdings.
  • Complete tax and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Respond to payroll-related questions and support managers and employees.
  • Conduct payroll audits and assist with internal / external audit requests.
  • Prepare and submit W-2s and other required state, federal, and union reports.
  • Research payroll laws and stay current with regulatory changes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect employee data.
  • Visit job sites or deliver checks when needed.
  • Provide payroll training to supervisors and employees.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits, and Accounting teams.
  • Complete ad hoc reporting and represent payroll on special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required :

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (or equivalent experience).
  • 6+ years of payroll experience, including 1+ year in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations (local, state, and federal).
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Preferred :

  • 3+ years of payroll management or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with Vista Viewpoint software.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Experience processing payroll for multi-state employers.
  • Familiarity with GAAP.
