HBD Summer Internship Program – Design Focus

Introduction :

The Homes by Dickerson, Inc. (HBD) Summer Internship Program offers an exceptional opportunity for aspiring professionals to immerse themselves in the dynamic homebuilding industry. Through a comprehensive 12-week internship, interns will engage in rotational shadowing experiences across various departments, gaining valuable insights and practical skills to support their career advancement. With a primary focus on Design, interns will delve into essential aspects of home construction, safety, procurement, scheduling, and quality assurance. Additionally, the program provides exposure to other key areas within the company, fostering a well-rounded understanding of the residential construction business.

Program Structure :

The internship program is structured to provide interns with a holistic understanding of the homebuilding process, with a significant emphasis on Design. Over a span of 9-10 weeks or 50 days, interns will actively participate in tasks and projects related to developing creative design concepts, making selections for speculative houses, managing and maintaining a quality client experience. This hands-on experience will be supplemented by formal training sessions and mentorship opportunities, ensuring interns develop both practical skills and industry knowledge.

Areas of Focus : 1. Design :

• Creative Design & Selections : Develop creative design concepts, make selections for speculative houses, and manage client change order requests
• Communication & Collaboration : Communicate with clients, vendors, suppliers, and the project team; collaborate with the neighborhood plan development team
• Site Visits & Quality Assurance : Perform periodic site visits to ensure accurate implementation of design selections and maintain high-performance building standards
• Showroom Maintenance : Maintain the showroom, keep it organized, and be knowledgeable about all products
