Assistant Professor, 2D Foundations

Overview

The Department of Art Design at Utah State University invites applications for a full-time nine-month Assistant Professor position to serve as the 2-D Foundations Coordinator and Instructor. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated record of effective teaching in foundational 2-D coursesspecifically 2-D Design and Drawing Iwithin a university setting. The position requires collaboration with fellow foundation-level instructors to cultivate essential design and drawing competencies among emerging artists. A strong commitment to student mentorship and academic success is also expected. The position is defined as 80% teaching 10% research / creative activity 10% service.

This is an Assistant Professor position beginning with the 2026-2027 academic year anticipated to start in August 2026.

This position is tenure-track eligible. Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee the 2-D art foundation courses : 2-D Design & Drawing I-including adjusting and adapting curriculum when needed with potential to coordinate 3-D Design.
• Initial teaching load to include :

The department features approximately twelve exhibitions a year in the beautifully remodeled Tippetts and Eccles Galleries; this includes a national juried exhibition for current BFA and MFA students. The department also works closely with the Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art to engage students from across the university in arts addition to programs on the Logan Campus the department has faculty on the USU Eastern campuses in Price and Blanding Utah and delivers courses by electronic and hybrid instructional systems to USUs six other regional campuses and numerous county centers around the state.
