Job Description

The developing Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications for a tenure-track full-time core faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor within the School of Public Health. The successful candidates will contribute to the development, delivery, and assessment of the curriculum; mentor and advise students; and engage in scholarly activity and service that support the mission of the program, the Department of Kinesiology, and the School of Public Health. This search seeks to fill one position with expertise in neurologic physical therapy and neurorehabilitation.

Required Qualifications

  • Physical Therapy degree with Board certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy (ABPTS or equivalent) OR Academic Doctorate (PhD, DSc, EdD) in a related area.
  • Clinical experience in neurologic physical therapy (e.g., stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, neurodegenerative disease).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at graduate level (prior teaching, lab instruction).
  • Evidence or potential for scholarly productivity (publications, presentations, grant activity).
  • Commitment to working in an emerging DPT program, including program development, accreditation, and student mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, EdD) or equivalent in Rehabilitation Science, Neuroscience, or related field
  • Hold or be eligible for Physical Therapist licensure in Nevada (or compact-eligible).
  • Experience coordinating clinical education or serving as a clinical instructor / site coordinator.
  • Experience in curricular design, simulation, or use of technology in neuro education.
  • Effective interdisciplinary collaboration (e.g., working with neuroscience, engineering, bioinformatics).
  • Successful track record of extramural grant funding or large-scale research projects.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Experience mentoring students and junior faculty.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Faculty dependents have unlimited credits, but to be eligible, children must be unmarried and under twenty-four. About the School of Public Health

The School of Public Health at the University of Nevada, Reno is an R1 research institution with strong institutional support for faculty scholarship and external funding. The School of Public Health is CEPH-accredited and houses multiple centers in areas like substance abuse, behavioral health, dementia research, and health services. Its faculty and students are actively engaged in externally funded research supported by federal, state, and private sources including NIOSH, CDC, NSF, state health agencies, and more. In 2024, a UNR-affiliated center received over $783,000 in grant funding for community health programs, and a doctoral candidate in our SPH became the first in school history to receive a competitive NIH R36 award. These activities reflect the vibrant research environment you would join. The DPT program will be housed in the department of kinesiology in the SPH. Kinesiology has a robust undergraduate program and growing masters' programs. There will be opportunities for collaboration with faculty and other units across campus such as sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and public health.
