Founded in 1826 as a home for orphaned children, St. John's has evolved into a nonprofit social services agency providing residential care to New York City youth involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. We offer holistic, trauma-informed support to young people up to age 21.

Our main campus in Rockaway Park, Queens, houses a Residential Treatment Center, Close to Home Non-Secure Placement programs, administrative offices, clinical services, and an on-site NYC Department of Education school. We also operate a Non-Secure Detention residence in Richmond Hill and Limited Secure Placement programs in Brooklyn and Staten Island.

St. John's is dedicated to helping youth heal, grow, and build the skills they need to achieve their goals and return to family or a stable, supportive environment as engaged members of their communities.

Principal Responsibilities

• Interact with youth throughout their day-to-day schedule while youth is in placement and in the community.
• Support youth when crisis intervention is needed while in placement and while in the community.
• Provides real time, in-person and / or phone emergency crisis intervention support for assigned youth 24 / 7.
• Attends and actively participates in treatment team meetings, release conferences and other meetings related to the youth service plan.
• Support and assist staff in deescalating conflicts by providing strength-based, unbiased crisis counseling and support to all individuals.
• Offer ongoing mentoring to youth and staff in area of trauma informed care and de-escalation techniques.
• Support in the creation and implementation of Behavior Support Plans to assure safety of all assigned individuals.
• Support families if youth refuse to attend school, is arrested, has court proceedings in criminal court, does not follow through with their conditions of release, and exhibits any challenges at home while in the community.
• Attends required / offered training sessions at ACS, OCFS and agency.
• Enter content such as face to face contacts with youth and families, Elevated Risk Conference (ERC) notes, Behavior Support Plans and other information into CNNX.
• Works in partnership with the Aftercare Coordinator, Case Planning and Programming team to maintain a safe, and reality-based transition plan for youth in Aftercare program.
• All other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Travel Requirements

This position offers a full-time, in person / in field role that requires regular travel around all five boroughs.
