Memphis VA Medical Center

The Memphis VA Medical Center has an opening for a part-time Oral Surgeon that carries the opportunity for full-time, as well as a dual academic appointment with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The position reports directly to the Chief of Dental Care. This position requires experience with the medical and surgical needs of both inpatient and outpatient needs.

The Medical Center consists of one main campus and ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). It’s a 1a-complexity tertiary care facility and part of the largest healthcare system in the world. It’s located in one of the fastest growing veteran-populated regions in the United States. The facility provides comprehensive care to over 47,000 veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit and offers in-house radiation therapy. It’s also a teaching hospital, providing guidance to a full range of residents, fellows, and patient care services utilizing state-of-the-art technology.

Duties include but are not limited to :

  • Performing dentoalveolar surgery
  • Providing oral surgery treatment in both outpatient clinic and operating room settings.
  • Treating orofacial infections and trauma
  • Performing pre-prosthetic surgery.
  • Placing dental endosseous implants
  • Conducting diagnostic procedures consistent with the practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS).
  • Providing surgical treatment and biopsy of oral and maxillofacial pathology.
  • Performing hard and soft tissue grafting procedures consistent with the practice of OMFS.
  • Supervising of General Dental Practice and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents.

Highlights of this position include :

  • Experience-Based Salary $232,400-$300,000
  • Work Schedule : Mon-Fri : 8AM-4 : 30PM : Periodic on Call
  • CME Reimbursement : Possible $1000 per year (Must be Board Certified)
  • Malpractice Liability Protection with tail coverage
  • Participation in clinical research trials
  • Faculty Appointment-University of TN Health Science Center
  • Requirements :

  • BE / BC in Oral Surgery
  • Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at UTHSC
  • Full and unrestricted license from ANY state
  • US Citizenship
  • Be proficient in the written and spoken use of the English language
