Spur Staffing and Bullock County Schools are looking for a reliable, punctual, and supportive Handicapped Aide for their schools. This position would be a full-time, Monday -Friday opportunity continuing the rest of the 24-25 school year.

This professional helps special education teachers provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education settings. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher. The pay rate for this position is $13.50 per hour.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist students with mobility, including transferring, positioning, and using mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers).
  • Provide personal care support such as toileting, diapering, feeding, and hygiene assistance as needed.
  • Support students in classroom activities, helping with assignments, note-taking, and organization.
  • Assist students with communication devices or adaptive technology.
  • Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, and other school activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and special education staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Encourage student independence while providing appropriate support.
  • Monitor students’ well-being and report concerns to teachers or school staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold school policies related to student care.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with disabilities (preferred).
  • Ability to obtain Alabama State Department of Education background check
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to lift and assist with mobility as needed.
