Salary : 50.00

Pay : $50 per visit, plus mileage

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is a qualified person who provides occupational therapy services to patients in the home under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.

Qualifications :

Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant

Certifying exam by the National Board of Certifying Occupational Therapy

Preferably two years experience as an occupational therapy assistant

One-year related field / home health experience preferred

Valid state drivers license

Current TB and CPR

Skills / Abilities :

Assists the occupational therapist in evaluations of the level of function of the patient

Prepares clinical and progress notes.

Helps develop the plan of treatment (revising as necessary)

Advises and consults with the family and other agency personnel.

Observes, records, and reports any changes in the patients condition.

Educates the patient / family in use of equipment and home therapy programs.

Assists with the rehabilitation of patients according to the plan of care.

Communicates effectively with all providing care

Essential Responsibilities :

• Verifies client information by interviewing client; reviewing and / or recording medical history; confirming purpose of treatment.
• Helps clients improve their quality of life by helping them compensate for limitations, such as, helping injured workers improve their motor skills and re-enter the labor force, and teaching persons with learning disabilities to prepare meals or to use public transportation and increase their independence.

Follows treatment plan developed in collaboration with occupational therapist by teaching techniques, such as, the proper method of moving from a bed into a wheelchair, and the best ways to stretch and limber muscles; monitoring activities to make sure they are performed correctly; providing encouragement, bringing treatment that is not having the intended effect to the attention
